by Ulysses (Ire)
2020 bay filly by Ulysses (Ire) ex Panova (GB) (Invincible Spirit (Ire))
Trainer George Boughey, Newmarket
This lovely filly is by the promising young sire Ulysses, who has done well with his first crop of horses in 2021 given that his stock are sure to improve with age.
He has had several impressive winners through the autumn, as well as a Group 3 placed horse in Piz Badile and Listed placed Gwan So. By the phenomenal sire Galileo and out of Oaks winner Light Shift, Ulysses was bred to be a superstar and he was just that, winning the Coral-Eclipse and Juddmonte International as a four year old, bowing out after finishing third to Enable in the 2017 Arc De Triomphe.
Our filly is a stunning physical model with a lovely Cheveley Park pedigree that goes back to the much loved Russian Rhythm, one of the outstanding race-fillies of her generation. Her class has passed down through this wonderful female family, to her daughter Safina who was third in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot, and on to her grand-daughter Marenko, who won the Group 3 Fred Darling Stakes, was second in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster, and third in the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket. Marenko is a half sister to Panova, the dam of our filly, who was a 90 rated race filly herself. Their half-sister Vesnina has already produced a Group filly in Nina Bailarina, and so Panova has every chance of doing the same. Our Ulysses filly is an outstanding physical model and cannot be faulted at this early stage. She could be anything and we are absolutely thrilled to have her as a BRC horse this season.
George Boughey is one of the most exciting and promising young trainers in the country. He was Assistant Trainer to Hugo Palmer for six years before setting up himself, with the last two of those years spent managing Hugo’s second yard. This experience has set him up perfectly for the real thing, and he has made an excellent start to his career as a trainer. George’s has proved that he can win with two-year-old debutants, improve older horses from other trainers, and his career truly came of age this year when winning the 1000 Guineas with Cachet, an extraordinary achievement. George trains from Saffron House Stables on the Hamilton Road in Newmarket, and is one of racing’s brightest young training talents.
