Go North weekend review

 In Public, Uncategorised

We couldn’t have hoped or prayed for nicer weather for our three days in the North! The sun shone on us and we were treated to some fantastic, competitive racing at three brilliant racecourses where we were looked after like kings. Our weekend started at Nick Alexander’s beautiful yard in Fife, where we toured his stable (meeting the recently retired Lake View Lad and others) and saw the horses on the gallops in the bright sunshine.

We then headed inside to Nick’s kitchen where we sat round the table and discussed British Racing Club memories and plans for the future over tea and cake. It was hard to drag ourselves out, but we had a racecourse to get to!

An hour’s drive south led us to Musselburgh, where we were led up to our box for the day with an incredible view down the home straight and excellent view of the finish. The champagne was cracked open (thank you Kate!) and we had a very jolly afternoon with winners, losers and lots of laughs.

Then after going our separate ways for the night, we reconvened in the car park at Kelso on Saturday for more champagne and nibbles before racing. Again, we were bathed in sunshine which is apparently a rarity at Kelso! After a few bottles of champagne we headed in to the charming racecourse (dogs aplenty!) and watched some really competitive racing with several local winners, which made for a great atmosphere. Some BRC members even sampled a “Kelsae Yorkie” – a full Sunday roast wrapped in a Yorkshire pudding – the racecourse delicacy!

The view from our Carlisle box

If we had started to feel a little weary as we approached Carlisle on Sunday for our third day of racing in a row, we were soon perked up by the incredible view from our enormous private box, from which we could see the entirety of the track with a birds eye view! It was a really special place to be for the afternoon to enjoy some great racing.

On reflection, our Go North weekend was exhausting but brilliant! We were so well looked after by the racecourses and thanks must go to Musselburgh, Kelso, Carlisle and Nick Alexander’s teams for their hospitality over the weekend. The excellent prize money on offer resulted in competitive, exciting racing and every single one of us had an outstanding time. Bring on next year!
