Stuart Redding’s Saturday tips – Saturday 26th February

There is something for everyone this Saturday, with the ITV cameras capturing jumps action from Kempton and Newcastle plus two All Weather races at Lingfield.

The main meeting comes from the Sunbury venue. I’m going to swerve the first race at 1.15 though. There are eight runners and I could make a solid case for nearly all of them! If forced to decide, it would have to be an each-way bet on Foxboro who has been running well in defeat recently but doesn’t win often enough for my liking.

Pleasant Man is just one of several interesting juvenile hurdlers who could emerge as a genuine Triumph Hurdle contender if running well in the Adonis Hurdle but KNIGHT SALUTE will be a tough nut to crack. The gelding is unbeaten over jumps and took his record to 4-4 at Doncaster in December, beating Porticello and Impulsive One who have both boosted that form since.

FANTASTIC LADY is the most appealing option in the Pendil Chase. Nicky Henderson’s seven-year-old has blossomed in recent weeks and had little difficulty adding a second chase success at Bangor fifteen days ago. She beat the boys at Warwick last month and her handy mares’ allowance could be crucial here.

It is hard to envision defeat for Gary Moore’s SHALLWEHAVEONEMORE in the Dovecote Hurdle after an effortless win at Sandown last time out. The bookies aren’t giving much away though, so if you’re feeling adventurous it might be worth backing him in an exacta to beat ICEO. Paul Nicholls’ four-year-old scored an impressive success here in December and his yard was under a cloud when he disappointed at Cheltenham four weeks ago.

The £150,000 prize money has attracted a competitive 14-runner field for the day’s big handicap chase, and I can see CAP DU NORD picking up a big payday off bottom weight. He hasn’t won for a while but the handicapper has given him a big chance and he did well to get as close as he did in a Doncaster handicap last time out, because his jumping lacked fluency and the steady tempo didn’t suit.

The Eider at Newcastle will be a real slog but that will suit WIN MY WINGS, who is well worth an each-way bet at a big price. She still had work to do turning for home at Exeter last time out but powered home and caught Run To Milan in the closing stages. This extra mile is sure to suit and new cheekpieces could sharpen her up a bit too.

Don’t blink or you might miss the Hever Sprint Stakes which will see six speed-balls blitzing round Lingfield’s All Weather track. It’s competitive enough, but TONE THE BARONE has a great record in small fields and he could be hard to catch if getting to the front from the widest stall.

Genuine Group 1 performers Alenquer and Lord North add class to the Winter Derby but they might not be fully tuned up at the start of a long season and FANCY MAN can put his proven fitness to good use. He is a useful performer too and Richard Hannon’s colt took his All Weather record to 2-2 when landing the trial for this race three weeks ago.
