The BRC is back – a review of our first runner

 In Public, Uncategorised

The much anticipated call came last Sunday when Tom Clover confirmed that Electric Love had been declared for Epsom on Tuesday! This lovely filly had been working well at home and the time was right for her to return to the racecourse. The Indigenous Handicap at Epsom had been on Tom’s radar for her for a while, and all conditions looking perfect he declared her with the British Racing Club silks and Hayley Turner on board.

Ominous clouds never produced any rain and Electric Love was drawn well in Stall 10 – everything was going to plan! Twenty British Racing Club members arrived at Epsom to pick up their Owners badges and lunch tickets and headed up to the BRC’s private box for the day with an incredible view out over the racecourse and Epsom Downs. We headed down to the paddock and saw Tom saddling Electric Love, and discussed race tactics with him and jockey Hayley Turner. The frenetic pace of the five furlong trip at the UK’s fastest five furlong track (downhill all the way!) would hopefully suit Electric Love and hopes were high!

Of course, the best laid plans…. Electric Love was fidgeting in the stalls and missed the break, a huge disadvantage over this sharp trip. She did incredibly well to make up the ground lost and Hayley thought even then that she had a big chance of winning, only for the filly to receive a hefty bump and for her path to be blocked several times. The pairing finished fifth, an impressive result given the trouble in running, and there is no doubt that Electric Love is capable of winning a race in this grade, which gave us much hope for the rest of the summer!

The British Racing Club members enjoyed the rest of the afternoon watching competitive racing from our private box, and headed home having had a really enjoyable day at the races. Big thanks must go to Epsom for looking after us all so well! Electric Love ate up after the race and trotted up sound the next morning (always the most important result!), so we are all hopeful that she can get her head in front as she so deserved to on Tuesday next time!

It was fantastic to see the British Racing Club silks back on the track and all eyes will be on our next runner – watch this space!
